- need press passes to take photos at games
- it is good to be familiar with the sport you are shooting because you will know when to take shots
- need to take predictable and unpredictable shots
- if you are far away from action, you will need a longer lens
- requires a fast shutter speed
- hockey and soccer are the hardest sports to shoot
- uses the Rule of Thirds a lot
